Election Propaganda Should be in Turkish

RTUK warned radio and television stations to follow the broadcasting principles determined by the YSK. Radio and Television stations may not broadcast programs about the elections in any language other than Turkish.

Journalists Fined in Turd Case

Journalists from the Yesil Gole, 23 Subat, and Kuzeydogu Anadolu newspapers, who were sued by Goles local official Gungor, were fined to pay 5 billion Turkish lira in damages. The journalists will appeal the decision.

Karakurt, the former manager of the Anatolias Voice radio, who broadcasted programs about the operations at the F-type and Ulucanlar prisons, was acquitted. But a prosecutor appealed the verdict saying he should be sentenced for dangerous incitement.

Police detained 3 distributors of the Yeniden Ozgur Gundem newspaper, and 3 reporters of the Dicle News Agency. The reporters are accused of aiding an illegal organization through publications. They were released after 24 hours.

RTUK issued a warning to TGRT saying it aired programs that would hurt the physical, mental and moral development of youngsters. ART was also warned for violating the rule that, there must be at least 20 minutes between advertisements.

Sabri Ejder Ozic, the former head of the local Radio Dunya, has been sentenced to a year in prison for insulting the TBMM. Ozic was accused of saying, This parliament is terrorist. Ozics lawyer Meric has appealed the court decision.

Court Says Websites Insult Army

According to an Ankara Court decision, the websites of the weekly Ekmek ve Adalet magazine and the daily Ozgur Politika newspaper were halted. All access to the websites are restricted through filters since months.

Dersim magazine managers Mutlu and Coskun, who are being charged with inciting hatred and hostility, asked the court to be acquitted. Lawyer Demir said the indictment and the study about the case did not say what parts in the magazine constituted crime.

Journalist Kara Stands Trial for Five Cases

Kara, the owner of the newspaper Datca News, stood trial for 5 cases. The prosecutor demanded Karas acquittal in the case he was being sued for wrong address declaration. The hearings were postponed because lawyer Apaydin was not present in court.

TRT Cannot be Compared to BBC

During the Communications Council, the Internet Commission called for the establishing of an Information Technology Ministry. There cant be public broadcasting if there is no autonomy, said the Public Broadcasting and TRT Commission.
