Two Special News in Circassion Broadcasts

TRT Radio 1 and TRT 3 TV broadcasted in the Circassion language Thursday, following the Bosnian, Arabic and Kirmanji. Besides common news programs, three songs by the Circassians Folkloric Dance Group were also broadcasted.

Trial for Education in Mother Tongues

The owner of the Munzur Haber and lawyer Aygun is standing trial for giving a speech about the students who petitioned to receive education in their mother tongues. He had been acquitted before in a similar trial.

Languages Other than Turkish on TV and Radio

There will be Bosnian, Kurdish, Zaza, Circassian and Arabic broadcasts on radio and TV once a week each. Kurds and Zazas think six oclock in the morning is too early for the radio programs. Bosnians say they did not demand to have Bosnian broadcasts.

Radio Anchor Detained for Quoting Ocalan

Milli Gazetes former writer Albayrak was sent to the Kalecik Prison after an appeals court upheld the 15 months of prison sentece handed to him for insulting Ataturk. Albayrak will remain in prison for five months.

RTUKs Last Punishment For Four TV Channels

RTUK ordered a program on CNN Turk off the air for once, for violating advertising rules. ATV was handed a penalty for hurting the development of the youth with the program A to Z with Esra Ceyhan. RTUK handed TGRT and Show TV three warnings each.

RTUK Closed Down, Court Opens the Gunes TV

With the order of the RTUK, Malatyas Gunes TV had stopped broadcasts on March 30. Now, 11 days before its penalty is over, the television will be able to begin broadcasts in line with the courts decision.

An investigation has been ordered about the police officers from the Beyoglu police station who detained and beat up reporter Hilmi Hacaloglu of the private NTV television. Police has said that Hacaloglu was not detained, but just received as a guest.

Journalist Recovered and Arrested Again

Benli, the former editor-in-chief of the Hedef magazine was released a year ago when he was diagnosed with the Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome. Now, the official report saying Benli has recovered, and he has been sent to prison again.

RTUK Calls off Programs at 6 TVs and a Radio

RTUK, in its last meeting, warned 21 media organizations for their Paparazzi programs. It called off programs at some media organizations including GUN TV in Diyarbakir, national Show TV channel, CNBC-e and even some cable TV stations.
