Share of working class in Turkey’s population grows over 50 years while unionization declines
According to the latest statistics, the number of registered workers in Turkey reached 16 million in 2024. Including unregistered labor, the total workforce in the 2020s is estimated to be around 22-24 million, making up nearly 28% of the population. However, the unionization rate has dropped to half of its 1970s level of 25-30%, now standing at 15%.
