The HDP members who attempted to protest the appointment of trustees to three municipalities faced a police barrier on Taksim Square.
"Human dignity will defeat torture," the group chanted and said, "The reign of the oppressors will collapse, the trustees will take their place in the dirty pages of history. The underdog will prevail sooner or later."
Meanwhile, the police intervened in the group. Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) İstanbul MP Ahmet Şık fell to the ground as he attempted to prevent the detentions. The press Commission of the HDP İstanbul provincial organization said police detained seven members of the party, three of whom are women.
The names of the detainees are as follows: Nesimi Aday (HDP PM member), Damla Savcı (HDP Ümraniye district co-chairperson), Sitki Tatlıci (party manager) and Vedat Fidan.
Speaking to bianet after police intervention, HDP İstanbul MP Şık said, "I am not surprised by the AKP's trustee politics. This is the AKP after all. The places assigned to the registry should not be considered as only Mardin, Diyarbakır, Van. This means a trustee in İzmir, Ankara, İstanbul.
If you remember, in İstanbul, they made the elections twice and did not recognize the will of the people. Somehow they don't recognize the will of the people.
"What is stolen is the will of the people, everyone except the AKP-MHP fascist front should raise voice."(EMK)
