Intellectuals to Support DTP in Parliament

Following the call of the Turkey Peace Parliament, around 20 people, among them artists, journalists, lawyers and rights activists, will join the parliamentary group meeting of the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party (DTP) today (28 April) at 12:30.
This is meant as a gesture of support for the party, many leading members of which have been taken into custody or arrested in operations taking place since 14 April.
According to the Günlük newspaper, more than 250 have been taken into custody, and around 80 people have been arrested.
Hakan Tahmaz from the Peace Parliament spoke with bianet, saying that they wanted to support the party, which, they believe, is a necessary participant in any peace process.
Last week, DTP MPs had spent a night in parliament in protest. Party co-chair Ahmet Türk had criticised the government, saying, “Despite the attacks we have experienced, we of the DTP continue to hope that the place for a solution is parliament.” (TK/AG)
