What is going on in Iskenderun Dear Gul?
Bar chair Kirik said the U.S. had created a de facto state in Iskenderun and announced that this exceeded the modernization agreements. Kirik called on the authorities to inform the people and to oppose this war.
Nazim Kirik, head of the Hatay Bar, wants the government to inform the people about the "military build-up at the Iskenderun port." He, ask prime minister Abdullah Gul: "What's going on dear prime minister?"
"The United States (U.S.) has created a de facto state in Iskenderun," Kirik said.
These are the main points in Kirik's statement:
* The Hatay Bar insists that this war is a murder.
* The U.S., by creating a de facto state, is continuing to pile troops, weapons and equipment at the Iskenderun port. We are not given adequate information and watching with concern that the troops, weapons and equipment at the port exceed what is needed for the modernization of Turkish ports and bases.
* The fact that the U.S. is sending troops and ammunition to Iskenderun is against article 92 of the Turkish constitution.
* The legal reason of the military build-up at the port should be announced and the people should be informed. (NK/BB/EA/NM)
