Police Seizes Grave Stones, Detains Homeless in Gezi Park

Police once more seized the grave stones symbolically dedicated to those who died during Gezi Resistance. This morning’s police intervention also resulted in the detention of 16 homeless people and a human rights activist from Germany. 

Towards 12:30 pm local time this afternoon, along with municipality workers, police started demolishing grave stones in the park dedicated to those who lost lived during Gezi Resistance. 

In the meanwhile, police also detained 16 homeless people who were living and sleeping in the park, clearing the area where homeless were staying next to grave stones. 

Some onlookers took a step in and attempted to save the stones from police intervention as police confiscated all the belongings of homeless people including food and clothing. 

“These are not stones. These are memories. And you can’t just collect people’s belongings like that,” Klaus Müller shouted. He was on the scene along with a group of journalists. Police detained Müller upon his protest.  

A Human Rights Association (IHD) activist, Müller came to Turkey from Germany yesterday. (NV/BM)
