Columnist of the closed Özgür Gündem daily, Şaban Iba was taken into custody in his apartment in a house raid yesterday.
In Edremit district of Balıkesir, gendarmerie carried out a house raid towards yesterday morning in the apartments of İba and artists Nihat Sönmez. At the time of the raid, İba was at home but Sönmez was out.
Taken into custody on charges of "being a member of an [illegal] organization" following the house search by the gendarmerie, İba was taken to the Provincial Gendarmerie Command. (EA/DG)
