Number of Women Increase in High Judiciary
First time in history, two most important bodies of the Turkish high judiciary host numerous women members. Eight out of 23 members to the Supreme Court of Appeals and five out of nine members to the State Council are women.
Turkey's Supreme Council of Judges and Public Prosecutors elects new members to the Supreme Court of Appeals and the Council of State.
Number of women members to both high bodies of the judiciary increased with thess recent elections.
Of 23 new members to the Supreme Court of Appeals, eight of them are women.
Likewise, five out of nine members of the State Council are women. This marks a new point in high judiciary regarding gender disparity.
In addition, the State Council is headed by a woman, Sumru Çörtoğlu since May 2006.(AÖ/EÜ)
