Non-Commissioned Army Officer Attempts to Commit Suicide

N.D., a non-commissioned officer in Turkish Army's 10th Motorized Infantry Brigade located in Tatvan, Bitlis province, was reported to cast a bullet to his chest this morning in order to commit suicide.

While the non-commissioned officer's motives for shooting himself are still not known, N.D. has immediately been hospitalized in Bitlis Public Hospital.

Last week, 5 army staff were reported to commit suicide, tragic incidents that Soldier Rights Initiative defined as "a series of desperation".

Peace and Democracy Party deputy Nursel Aydoğan submitted an official request to the parliament to form a commission to investigate the incidents. (EKN)
