IHD: Parlaks Detention is Illegal
The Istanbul branch of the Human Rights Association (IHD) said the writer's detention is illegal.
IHD: "The news coverage is against the right of defense"
Helen Buket, who works at the Rainbow Women's Association, was also detained along with Parlak.
Police seized many documents and the computer they found at Parlak's house. As well as reacting to the detentions, IHD also reacted to the way the media covered the incident.
"Accusing those detained through the media places a restraint on the right to defense, right to fair trial, freedom of expression and the right to form organizations, as well as personal rights," said the IHD statement.
Karakas : "Detention period is too long"
Police from the Istanbul Police Headquarters detained Parlak for "being a member of the outlawed Kongra-Gel organization." Her detention period has been extended "for the purpose of collecting evidence."
Fatma Karakas, the lawyer of Parlak said extending the detention period to collect evidence is illegal and asked the police headquarters to send Parlak to be questioned by prosecutors as soon as possible. (EO/EA/YE)
