End Interrogations in the Universities
Gokcek, talking on behalf of the Students of the Eskisehir Youth Club, said the interrogations in Sivas and Edirne, and the cooperation between YOK and police must end. Gokcek said they were fighting for a democratic university.
Ibrahim Gokcek, representing the Students of the Eskisehir Youth Club, demanded that "the interrogations directed to and the anti-democratic pressures on the students and youth in Sivas and Edirne," are ceased.
Gokcek said that interrogations were brought against about 10,000 students in the last two years. "2,000 students were suspended and 100 were expelled from school," said Gokcek. "We demand a democratic university," he added.
According to Gokcek, "there was an interrogation by the Trakya University's presidency against 50 students after an attack by nationalists".
The students from Sivas, who were against war, were detained, he said.
"The anti-democratic system at the universities must end and the cooperation between the High Education Council (YOK) and the police must cease," Gokcek said. (NK/BB/EA/NM)
