09.08.2004 - Turkish Justice Minister and Government Spokesman Cemil Cicek said on Monday that any additional legal arrangement was out of question for European Union's (EU) setting a negotiation date for Turkey in December.
After the meeting of the Council of Ministers, Cicek told reporters that Turkey fulfilled all conditions and political criteria for its EU membership goal.
When reminded the statement of Fener-Greek Patriarch Bartholomeos who said that EU would not set a negotiation date for Turkey if Heybeliada Seminary was not opened, Cicek said that Turkey would decide whether seminary would be opened or not.
Cicek noted that the condition of EU's setting a negotiation date for Turkey was related to political criteria, adding that this issue did not have any connection with opening of seminary. (EÖ-AÖ) (YE)
