Bilgen: “We Stand By Our Words ‘We Will not Let You Become President’”

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Spokesperson Ayhan Bilgen has reiterated his objection to presidential system on his Twitter account.
In the evaluation as to November 1 general election Bilgen made for Mahmut Lıcalı from Cumhuriyet daily after the elections, he had said "Any model including presidential system may be discussed. However, there can't be a one-man structure that limits freedom. That is not what society needs".
In Turkish parliamentary system, president has limited power that prevents him/her from engaging in legislative, executive and judicial calls which are addressed by parliament. In the system, president more operates like a supervision mechanism. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan aims to establish a presidential system in which president is equipped with much greater power and authorities. |
These words were considered a moderation in HDP's "policies against presidential system" by some comments on media.
Statement from Twitter
Upon these comments, Bilgen today issued a statement on his Twitter account:
"We stand by both our attitude in constitutional committee and our words 'we will not let you become president'". (HK/TK)
