17 Students Detained in Turnstile Protest Staged with Toy Truck

17 students protesting against turnstiles at Ege University have been taken into custody.
Student Collectives member students have been detained by being handcuffed from behind, and taken into hospital for physical examination.
Of the detained students, Emine Akbaba informing bianet said the turnstiles put in at the entrance of the university generates the feeling of blockade.
“The turnstiles put in under the cover of security measure damages the autonomic and democratic structure of the university. Existence of the turnstiles at a place where scientific education is being carried out is an impact on freedom of expression as well”.
The students poured detergent water on the turnstiles and then wiped it.
Afterwards, they staged the protest of pulling the rope they tied on the turnstiles with the t-shirts “Collective destruction team” by a toy truck.
Akbaba said that police intervened in very harshly, handcuffed from behind, battered the students and one student’s nose could be broken. (BK/TK)
