109-BN-TL Compensation for Victim of Security
The state will pay a compensation of 109 billion TL to the family of an inmate who was killed during the bloody Return-to-Life operation of the state in prisons, four years ago.
The court found the State of "Great fault" in the death of Mahmut Murat Ordekci, on December 19 2000 by the security forces who attempted to end the death strikes in prisons, by a mass operation.
The court decided for a compensation to be paid to mother Fatma and father Halil Ordekci for "The grief and suffering they experienced."
Murat Ordekci, a member of the Turkish Communist labor Party/ Leninist (TKEP/L) organization- was at the age of 28 when he was killed by a G3 bullet.
The court ruling said that "While the Return-To-Life"Operation should have been planned in a manner to avoid endangering human life, it ended with the death of 31 people and injury of 77, This shows that the operation was not planned well and force was not exercised in measure.
The responsible units (Justice and Interior Ministries) have violated the right to live of Ordekci. (NM)
